Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, is the Director of Intimacy and Sexual Disorders Services at Promises and creator of the Stimulants and Sexual Disorders Program. Mr. Weiss appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show to talk about sex and porn addiction. Mr. Wiess says that like drug or alcohol addicts, people with sexual addictions need strong support systems to break the cycle. Spouses may not be the best people to turn to, however, because they often feel angry and hurt by sexual addictions.

  • Los Angeles Business Journal – April 2010 – on the Promises transformation under Dr. David Sack
  • ABC News – February 2010 – Is Tough Love the Right Approach for Drug Addicts? “Many parents hold off taking action or getting help because they feel like anything they do is dangerous. What they forget is that the situation they’re in is terribly dangerous,” Dr. David Sack, a board certified psychiatrist and CEO of Promises Treatment Center, said. “How can you look at a mother whose child is smoking heroin and say, ‘Yes. It’s OK. Don’t do anything. Nothing’s going to happen to your child.’ That child is at risk of overdose.”
  • Time Magazine – February 2010 – Michael Jackson’s Health: Why Do Doctors Coddle Celebrities? Dr. David Sack, CEO of Promises Treatment Centers, an alcohol-abuse rehabilitation program in Malibu and West Los Angeles that has many celebrity clients, says that at the very least the case will serve as a cautionary tale. “In many instances where there’s been a fatality and there has been an investigation, the doctors have been reprimanded by the board, licenses have been suspended or revoked, but every one of these instances reminds the public and physicians of the risks,” says Sack. “Will that be enough? For some it will, and for some it won’t.”Sack points out an often fatal misconception. “What I would hope, first of all,” he says, “is that people would realize that just because a drug is prescribed doesn’t mean it’s safe. It’s only safe in a context, and once you change that context and you start to mix it with other pills and alcohol, it’s not going to be safe. The public needs education, and I think physicians, when they realize the risks, are much less likely to be pressured into prescribing them when they’re inappropriate or, more importantly, prescribing things without adequate supervision.”
  • Dr. Sack quoted by The Wall Street Journal – November 2008 – Rehab Programs Extend Stays to 3 Months

  • Promises Mentioned in LA Confidential – January 2008 – Promises Promises – “…Unlike its imitators, Promises isn’t just a superficial setting for sobriety. Boasting literally thousands of success stories for over two decades (in both Malibu and West LA outpost)…its approach to sobriety is as serious-minded as can be, no matter how rich, powerful, or privileged the client.
