The Malibu Model
As the Malibu Model matured, the initial client assessment became a critical part of the treatment process. This allowed the treatment team to create the most effective treatment plan for each individual client. Over the last two decades Promises has built its reputation by building treatment teams that include leading addiction psychiatrists, internists, and specialty providers so that each client has the therapeutic services they require without needing to go outside the program.
The Malibu Model also began with the understanding that one of the most difficult aspects of treating addiction is getting clients to stay in treatment for a sufficient period of time to gain the benefits of the therapeutic process. Affluent clients in particular often find a traditional, clinical environment to be off-putting. The Malibu Model embraced a more familiar environment: the home. By creating a warm, comfortable environment that felt more like home than a hospital, the founder, Richard Rogg, believed clients would be more inclined to complete treatment.
Promises Malibu is situated on a private, gated estate that allows clients to recover in a serene and exceptionally private refuge. The Malibu Model focuses on restorative treatment – helping clients heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually - and offers a well-rounded treatment program in which staff members serve as role models.
In creating this refuge overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Promises pioneered the holistic approach to addiction treatment. The elements of traditional addiction treatment are complemented by outdoor activities, yoga, acupuncture, equine therapy, and cutting-edge therapies such as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
By focusing on the whole person, the Malibu Model gives clients a full spectrum of tools to improve their lives and discover the possibilities of full, joyful living without drugs or alcohol.
