Heroin Labeled Obamacare Seized

Massachusetts police have seized 1,250 bags of heroin that were curiously labeled “Obamacare” and “Kurt Cobain,” the latter making only a bit more sense because the late rocker was found to be on large quantities of the drug when he killed himself. The Facebook announcement in December by Massachusetts state police about the roadside seizure held no illumination of the “Obamacare” and “Kurt Cobain” labels. But earlier this year, narcotics officers told Promises Behavioral Health about the use of famous basketball players’ numbers — those of Lakers’ Kobe Bryant and former player Shaquille O’Neal — as the quantity of angel dust they wanted to order. The latest famous names used to identify heroin were discovered during a traffic stop in Hatfield, a town of about 3,000 an hour’s drive from Boston, the Massachusetts state police reported. The state troopers’ Facebook page has attracted 975 likes on the Obamacare/Cobain heroin story. The only mention of the labels could be found in the photos of the drugs. “Early this morning,” the Dec. 20, 20013 Facebook post stated, “Trooper Joseph Petty was on a traffic stop of Route 91 in Northampton when a vehicle passed by him. Trooper Petty observed several violations. Trooper Petty stopped the vehicle a short time later in Hatfield. Trooper Petty made contact with the operator and passengers. “During the stop, evidence of illegal narcotics led to a request for a State Police K9. Trooper David Stucenski and K9 Frankie located 1,250 individual bags of heroin in the vehicle. Four people were taken into custody and charged with narcotics violations.” The story quickly went viral, with Obamacare opponents enjoying the negative association. The Wall Street Journal, which has editorialized against the Congress-approved Affordable Care Ace, headlined its story, “There’s a New Brand of Heroin.” And Huffington Post declared “Obamacare Heroin is Apparently a Thing Now.” Most headlines included Obamacare not Cobain, who was the lead singer of the rock group Nirvana. The frontman went to drug rehab for his heroin addiction and was found to have substantial amounts of it in his system at the time he fatally shot himself in April 2004. The reference to the politically charged healthcare plan remained a mystery.
