A Typical Day
One characteristic that makes Promises New Jersey drug and alcohol rehab unique is that no two days are alike here. Programming evolves and changes with our clients’ needs. At the end of each day, our treatment team meets to plan the next day’s activities based on issues and topics that surfaced that day. Keeping that in mind, here’s an idea of what a day in our New Jersey drug rehab may look like:
Morning activities begin at 9 am with a check-in group. You’ll have a chance to share how you’re feeling, and we’ll discuss what we plan to work on that day. Check-in discussions revolve around the theme for that week, which may include shame, grief, family issues, secrets, self-care, self-esteem, relapse prevention, acceptance, forgiveness and other important recovery topics.
Some days you’ll participate in psychoeducation groups on addiction and mental health issues from 9:30 to 11 am. Other days you’ll engage in process groups focusing on topics such as relationships, resiliency, emotion regulation or how to change unhealthy thought patterns. The rest of the morning typically includes process groups.
Lunch takes place from 12 to 12:30 pm. After lunch, you may attend an individual session with your primary therapist. Our specially trained counselors draw upon therapeutic techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. These are evidence-based approaches that help you change negative thought processes and behaviors that can fuel addictions. If you’re not attending an individual session, you’ll participate in groups like family systems and roles, mindfulness or experiential exercises or educational groups on co-occurring mental health disorders and addictions.
Most of our clients choose to stay at one of the nearby sober living facilities. These residences provide a substance-free, supportive living environment to return to at the end of each treatment day.
