For the 11th year, The Promises Foundation presents its annual Polo in the Palisades charity polo match. The event benefits Miriam’s House, a transitional recovery home for low-income women and their children. Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 16, 2016 – On Sept. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., The Promises Foundation will hold its annual Polo in the Palisades fundraiser at Will Rogers Historic State Park, with Promises Treatment Centers® as a proud polo team sponsor. In its 11th year, this event brings together friends and leaders in the entertainment, business, legal and recovery communities to support Miriam’s House, a recovery home for low-income women and their children affected by substance abuse and behavioral health issues. This year, The Promises Foundation is proud to honor three well-deserving individuals for their dedication to helping those in need:
- Shireen Janti-Reid, CADC II, a director at MusiCares, is being awarded the Promises Foundation Award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Recovery for her 27 years of work helping those with addictions. Though she wears many hats at MusiCares, Ms. Janti-Reid’s primary focus is helping women who have been battered and abused recover their inner strength and self-worth.
- Judge Bernard J. Kamins, Superior Court of California,is receiving the Bob Timmins Award for Outstanding Service for his work rehabilitating people with substance abuse issues who are facing incarceration. Judge Timmins was instrumental in the formation of the L.A. County Drug Court, which has helped hundreds of people. He is one of the founders of the West District Homeless Court and also presides over a prostitution diversion project.
- Jerry McDonald, ACATA, Vice President Operations and Strategic Planning at Beacon House, is accepting the Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Field of Recovery for his 35 years of service in addiction treatment. Mr. McDonald began his career as a counselor and went on to design and implement chemical dependency services at South Bay Hospital in Redondo Beach, Daniel Freeman Hospital in Marina Del Rey and Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach.
Staff, volunteers and friends of The Promises Foundation’s Miriam’s House are anticipating a large turnout and are thankful for the success of past Polo in the Palisades events. “We are grateful for the continued generosity of our partners, colleagues and friends whose support allows us to make positive, lasting change in the lives of women and children who would likely otherwise be without help – or hope,” said Brenda Valiente, executive director of Miriam’s House. “We look forward to this event every year,” said event chair Patricia Meyers, executive director of client and alumni services at Promises Treatment Centers® and a Promises Foundation board member. “It’s a fun way to celebrate the important work Miriam’s House does every day while helping the foundation continue to improve the lives of women and children in need.” Polo in the Palisades will be located at 1501 Will Rogers State Park Road, Pacific Palisades, California, 90272. Tickets are $250 per person, and table sponsorships start at $2,500. Donations are tax deductible. To purchase tickets, visit The Promises Foundation website or call (310) 390-3700.
