Artist and songwriter, Shaylen, joins this week’s episode of Rooted Recovery Stories to discuss her journey in the music business as a child star facing the pressures of body image and living with an eating disorder. She has now been able to grow into her own as a solo artist after years of hard work.

Shaylen realized her love for music at a young age when performing at church. She went on to be a part of the pop group, Savvy, which traveled around the world and was even featured in the TV show, The Wannabes Starring Savvy. After some time, the group was suddenly shelved and dropped from their label which led to them moving to LA in an attempt to keep everything going. When the rest of the group decided to pursue their own goals, Shaylen remained in LA working odd jobs while honing her songwriting skills and building industry connections. Now Shaylen has learned how to handle the highest highs and lowest lows of life as not only an artist, but as a person with her own traumas and struggles. Patrick and Shaylen will dive into her story and how she has overcome life’s obstacles to reach her goals and pursue her purpose, music.
