We hear the old adage, everything in moderation, time after time, but it appears there really is something to it; even when it comes to exercise. According to a recent article, excessive exercise could actually end up doing more harm than good to your health. Researchers compared over-exercising to a drug, and that anything in extreme could cause a person to have adverse effects. Health officials emphasize that exercise is good, but there is a point when too much is too much. Officials say that people who have exercised consistently during their life tend to be healthier than those who have sporadic activity levels. The body has a way of conditioning itself and it is not something that can happen overnight. Runners who train for long distance running and endurance, according to the study, put themselves at risk for heart problems. This is contrary to what we have heard before. While officials are not urging people to give up their exercise routines, they are advising you to know your boundaries and to follow up with a doctor. Seeking a regular physical from your physician is good practice whether you exercise and just because you believe that you are healthy because of your daily regimen, it is still important to seek medical attention on a regular basis. Exercise provides many benefits to your physical health but overdoing it can be harmful. Just like in many other areas, keep in mind, it is the same principle with physical fitness. Know your limits, listen to your body and don’t overdo it.
