Promises Family Program & Family Therapy
Promises welcomes our clients’ families into treatment. We will do whatever we can to make this process easier for you – you’ve been dealing with a lot. We will pick up clients or their families at the airport and help to coordinate travel arrangements. Promises will also reach out to significant others during the client’s detoxification and help transition the family into the client’s addiction treatment program.

Promises employs full-time master’s level therapists who meet with clients and their families to work on various family and relationship issues. They also provide education and support for clients’ family members.

Our family program includes:

 Visitation opportunities every Saturday
An intensive family program every other Saturday (monthly on Thursdays and Fridays at Promises Austin)
Weekly phone updates for family members
Weekly family therapy sessions, via phone, Skype or in person (once clinically appropriate)
A multi-family support group every Wednesday evening for clients and loved ones

The goals of family therapy are to educate family members about the disease of addiction and to enhance communication skills so that clients have the support they need to sustain their recovery long term. In addition, research shows that greater family involvement translates into a more successful transition into life outside of rehab.

Because “family” is defined differently for everyone, we welcome into treatment individuals who will serve as the client’s primary support system after completing treatment, whether that’s a parent, spouse/partner, sibling or other trusted individual. Family therapy depends on the individual situation and needs of the client. We respect the sanctity of each relationship and will not contact family members until we touch base with the client.

Family Day

Morning
The day starts off with support and education for family members, followed by a strength-based group for clients and their families

Lunch
An opportunity for everyone to visit and socialize

Afternoon
Visitation and individual sessions with clients and their family members

For International Clients and Families
Promises Treatment Centers welcomes clients and their families from all over the world. Typically, for our out-of-state or out-of-country clients, we will discuss at the outset of treatment how often a client’s family member can come to our addiction treatment center. For those unable to make the trip out to Promises, we also offer telephone and web-based video conference call sessions.

Getting Your Loved One into Treatment
More than half of the people who contact us are not the actual patient, but the friends and family members who care about the addicted individual enough to take steps to improve their health and well-being. Also, we understand that most family members feel scared, overwhelmed, angry and helpless. Addiction affects everyone who loves and cares about the addict.

Promises Treatment Centers is here to help you get through this confusing time as you build healthier, more loving connections with your loved one.

Intervention
Because over 60% of our inquiries are from friends and loved ones, our admissions team is well-versed in educating family members about how to get a loved one into treatment and determining the appropriate level of care. In addition, we can coordinate every aspect of how to stage an intervention. From setting up the interventionist to talking to members of the family, if necessary.
