EMDR therapy is an eight-phase treatment that methodically identifies and addresses experiences that have overwhelmed the brain’s natural coping capacity, thereby generating traumatic symptoms and/or harmful coping strategies such as self-medication with drugs and alcohol. Clients who undergo EMDR therapy are able to reprocess traumatic information until it is no longer psychologically disruptive. The 12-Step Program
